Our Company

Commerce Grinding was started in 1976 by our founder & CEO, Joe Lodor with one Blanchard grinder and one surface grinder. Joe was a one-man operation, so he was the outside sales manager during the day and the chief machine operator at night. Commerce Grinding was located approximately one mile from downtown Dallas and consisted of a small rented space for a single machine.

As the business began to grow Joe was able to hire his first employee in 1977 - Tim Johnson, who is now an Executive Vice President of our company.

Competitive pricing, fast turn-around and the highest quality work are what has kept Commerce Grinding going and growing for over 30 years. Today we are one of the largest grinding facilities in the United States serving all industries, including aerospace, oil & gas, wind, steam & gas turbines, aircraft and other high precision/high tech manufacturers and suppliers.

In the heart of the D/FW metroplex, Commerce Grinding now occupies an entire city block plus additional buildings across the street – a total of 185,000 square feet of covered operations. We are near several major freeways and airports including Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, and Dallas Love Field Airport.

In 2007 Mr. Lodor consolidated his ownership of Commerce Grinding, Superior Saw and Commerce Plating into Lodor Enterprises, Inc. This corporation continues to do business as Commerce Grinding and Superior Saw. Mr. Lodor then transferred his ownership of Lodor Enterprises, Inc. to his employees through an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP).

Commerce Grinding is comprised of more than 80 professional craftsmen and support staff. Over 50% of our owner/employees have been with the company for more than ten years, so the same experience you depend on today will be here to help you tomorrow. With an extensive training program in place for our new owner/employees, you can be sure that we will be here to serve your needs for the 21st century and after.

Areas of Expertise

Engineering & Quality Control Departments
Commerce Grinding has its own engineering department to assist with any project or job when required. Customer drawings can be emailed and printed for producing parts or we can produce drawings using AutoCAD.

We design & build tooling for jobs as well as gauges when off-the-shelf gauges are not available.

The quality control department maintains gauges certified to national standards.

Blanchard and Surface Grinding
Blanchard grinders with capacities from 20” diameter X 10” height to the world's largest rotary surface grinder, 300” diameter X 144” height. Surface grinders 10” length X 20” width to 300” X 78”. External grinders from 10” diameter X 16” length to 50” X 156”. When we say no job is too big or too small, we really mean it.

O.D./I.D. Grinding
Machines vary in capacity from an 18” swing to 112”. ID/OD grinding to within .0001" in most cases. If you think it can't be done, call us. We routinely design and build tooling for jobs that are "almost impossible." From prototype to production, we are here to serve all of your grinding needs.

Machining
Our machining department has 3 CNC vertical machining centers capable of handling 40’ X 80” X 32” height; 2 VTLs capable of up to 100” diameter turning, boring or grinding and 4 lathes handling material up to 40” X 160”.

Chrome and Nickel Plating
We do commercial & industrial hard chrome plating of brass, copper, titanium, nickel, cast iron, stainless, D-2 and A-2 steel. We have capacity to chrome parts up to 14’ long X 23” O.D. and can also remove chrome from parts. We also do brush nickel plating of small parts.

WaterJet
Our state-of-the-art waterjet will cut any material up to 160” X 96” X 6” deep. The waterjet system is controlled by software developed specifically for waterjet operations to produce fast, accurate cuts. The waterjet can produce precise shapes from nearly any material to net or near-net dimensions without burrs, slag, delamination or heat-distortion. Waterjet systems routinely cut complex openings, patterns and contours from even hard-to-cut materials in shapes that are impossible to produce using traditional tools. Metals that can be cut include: alloys, aluminum, brass, kevlar, titanium, tungsten, copper, etc.

Saw Blades
Superior Saw, a division of our company, has been making friction saw blades for the steel industry since 1990. In addition to manufacturing new blades, we can sharpen, anneal, stress-relief and repair damaged blades from 21" to 100" in diameter. Competitive prices and superior quality have brought us customers from all over the U. S. and parts of Europe. We have a staff of highly trained craftsmen to meet all of saw blade needs. We can pickup and deliver saw blades nation-wide with our fleet of vehicles.
